Inspired by the beauty of Scottish waterways and the enthusiasm of fellow lovers of freshwater and the sea, the new season of Wild for Scotland dives into our country’s vast and varied bodies of water. Across this season, host Kathi Kamleitner tells immersive stories about her own watery experiences in Scotland and speaks with authors, activists, ecologists and locals who’re forging close relationships with the waterways around them.
The season is inspired by Kathi’s trips around Scotland and her passion for the outdoors, especially water-based activities.
“I want to use my platform and tell stories that are not just useful travel inspiration, but also present learning opportunities for my listeners. I love weaving in facts about history, nature and ecology that go beyond describing beautiful locations and dive into why certain places look the way they do, how they have been affected by humans and what impact travel can have on them. I hope that my listeners learn something new with every episode, and my stories might inspire them to make changes to the way they travel and look at the world.”
This season highlights a vast variety of Scottish waterways, from the shallow bays of the rugged west coast to the peat pools of blanket bogs in the northern Highlands. Activities include sailing, snorkelling, paddleboarding, swimming and canoeing and stories will cover topics like the health benefits of swimming, the Gaelic concept of dùthchas, and how to experience Scotland’s marine environment without harming it.
“As always we aim to feature locations that are lesser known to encourage listeners to look beyond the top destinations. We hope to inspire them to slow down and participate in nature-based activities to create meaningful travel memories and minimise their impact on the environment.”
In addition to immersive storytelling, this season features many voices of local Scottish authors, activists, ecologists, researchers and tourism professionals. Upcoming guests and featured organisations include:
- Dan Coyle aka. Dan the Merman
- Milly Revill-Hayward, RSPB Forsinard Flows
- Helena Simmons, Green Shores Project
- Philip Price, Seawilding
- Poet Alycia Pirmohamed
- Caroline Willis, Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust and many more!
Join Kathi as she wades into the depths of Scottish waters and dives into outdoor adventure, habitat restoration, wildlife encounters, creativity and more.
