Episode 47: ‘Yours to Explore’ – Exploring Dunfermline and West Fife
Let me take you along as I explore Dunfermline and West Fife in the footsteps of kings and queens, industrialists and innovators, philanthropists and… Outlander.
‘Yours to Explore’ is an episode about Scotland’s newest city Dunfermline and the surrounding region of West Fife. We dive into the medieval history of this Royal Burgh, its role throughout the Industrial Revolution, famous emigrants who found their luck in North America and world-changing innovations that left a lasting impression until today.
I’m taking you with me on a trip discovering Dunfermline, Culross, Aberdour and North Queensferry, we’ll walk along the Fife Coastal Path and visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Firth of Forth. We’ll visit Outlander film locations, hear ghost stories, tales about coal mining and much more.
Along the way, I speak with locals who call Dunfermline and West Fife their home:
- Natalia Lumsden, Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum
- Donna Dewar, Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries
- Iwan Thomas, Fife Coast and Countryside Trust
- Garry Irvine, North Queensferry Light Tower and Museum
